If you want to lose weight and get in shape you probably have searched for healthy weight loss programs. No doubt there are many weight loss programs out there; unfortunately it’s hard to sort out the good ones from the bad ones. The best weight loss programs are the ones that don’t promise you will lose 50 pounds in 30 days; rather it supports a healthy lifestyle change. Healthy weight loss programs are the ones that don’t make unreasonable promises and make it their goal to help you be a healthier person.

The best weight loss programs attempt to change the physiology of your body. There are many aspects of dieting that people don’t realize. Let’s take your brain for example. The sensation of feeling full comes from a signal relayed from your stomach to your brain. These signals don’t just detect the volume but also the ratio of carbohydrates, fats and proteins you eat. Carbohydrates are a group of food the body craves to hit the highest point of activity level. Carbohydrates are required to run away from a hungry lion or jumping from one tree to another. Our brain and taste buds are designed to hunt for carbohydrate rich foods.

This is the reason why some people have the craving for sugary things. Sugar is one such food that is easily digested and gives instant energy. By eating such high-energy food the brain is then convinced that the person can quickly climb up a tree to evade predators. So next time you need to run away from that lion chasing you, make sure you’ve got a candy bar ready to go for some quick tree climbing action. Learning proper eating habits means regulating the intake of these carbohydrates and total calories as a whole. This is the key idea behind Atkins’ Diet, Zone Diet, and South Beach Diet.

In the past, good dietary practices were considered by having you measure portion size, weighing the food, and buying pre-packaged meals. The aim behind the dietary limit was to starve the body gradually enough to burn the reserves of fat off. This wasn’t a bad theory but the problem is you need trigger types of foods in your plan; otherwise the body will be convinced, you are in a starvation mode and cause you to retain fat for calories to burn later. One-way to avoid having your body go into a fat storing starvation mode is by eating foods with exceptionally good flavors. An example of such weight loss programs are Jenny Craig, Ediets and Weight Watchers.

Another popular weight loss program is the “plain nuts” diets. These are the plans that ask the person to eat nothing but okra for 3-4 weeks, or they demand that everything must be soaked in vinegar before eating, or the eatables have to be washed thoroughly with a special nutritious drink or sometimes one meal has to be substituted with a shake. Examples of such diets are the Slim Fast program and Hollywood diet.

Remember, the best weight loss programs are the ones that not only teach you good eating habits but also teach you to listen to your body.
